'American Horror Story' Season 2 Spoilers and Character Pics!
by Andy NeuenschwanderFinally! We've been teased for weeks with the "American Horror Story" promos, which are plenty entertaining but not very revealing as to the plot of the upcoming season.
But now, EW has released character photos and a number of revealing plot details about "American Horror Story: Asylum," and all is right with the world. We can finally learn a bit more about Bloody Face, Jessica Lange's nun character, just exactly how Adam Levine is going to fit in all of this, and what will be haunting the asylum.
It's tough to say how spoileriffic all of this info will be (I'm guessing not that much, or it wouldn't be revealed this early), but if you're the type who likes to go in completely uninformed, there might be some minor spoilers ahead.
Let's start with Lange, who returns in a starring role coming off of her award-winning performance in the show's first season. Lange will be playing Sister Jude, a nun at the Briarcliff mental asylum in Massachusetts. Sister Jude is said to be pretty sadistic, and doles out severe punishment to inmates who may or may not need it.
Her foil looks to be Dr. Thredson, played by returning cast member Zachary Quinto. It sounds like Thredson, a psychiatrist at the asylum, takes a more modern approach to treating patients and is therefore at odds with Sister Jude. Quinto vs. Lange again? We'll take it!
They are joined in running the facility by Dr. Arden, played by James Cromwell. Here's where we get our first hint at what is haunting the asylum: Dr. Arden is rumored to be a former Nazi, and may be performing human experiments on the inmates. The result of this is the Raspers, who are mutated humans who terrorize the forest around the asylum. Maybe that's who the nun was spreading out body parts in the woods for in the promos?
As for Adam Levine's character, he won't be one of the inmates... at least not right away. Levine will be one half of a honeymooning couple (Jenna Dewan Tatum plays his wife) who runs into danger in the area of the asylum. Whether they're taken down by the Raspers or by another evil is yet to be seen.
After all, we do know that Bloody Face will be a factor, and the EW article reveals that he's a serial killer who wears the skin of his victims... and a black nightie and opera gloves. Can you think of anything creepier?
As if the Raspers, Bloody Face and possible Nazis weren't enough, it seems that the new season might also feature aliens. The year is 1964, which is right around the time of Roswell and the Rocket Age, and a period where alien abduction reports and science fiction became very popular. Evan Peters, who played Rubber Man last season, will play an inmate named Kit this season who claims his wife was abducted by aliens. Interesting... is this what happened to the bandaged woman on the promo released today?
